Meghan Markle breaks Queen's one major rule - what will happen now?

Meghan Markle gave a passionate and political speech on feminism and women's voting rights in New Zealand, but it's broken one of the Royal Family's most important rules.

New Zealand is celebrating it was the first country in the world to give women the right to vote, 125 years ago.

Speaking at Government House, in front of a portrait of her grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II pregnant Meghan, who is giving birth to her first child in April 2019,  broke one of the Queen's un-breakable rules - she talked about politics. 

The Royal Family does not normally comment on politics, meaning the Duchess of Sussex's speech broke traditional protocol. 

The Duchess of Sussex, who is on a Royal Tour of New Zealand with husband Prince Harry, has said the women of New Zealand who fought for universal suffrage are “universally admired”.

“​In looking forward to this very special occasion, I reflected on the importance of this achievement, but also the larger impact of what this symbolises.

“​Because yes – women’s suffrage is about feminism, but feminism is about fairness,” she said.

Since Meghan arrived Down Under, she's been busy winning hearts but breaking rules! She's posed for selfies (which is a huge security no-no for the Royal Family)...

...and got a fit of the giggles in Fiji during a choir performance about a mosquito!

It's unlikely the Queen will be amused by Meghan talking so openly about politics in New Zealand. Throughout her reign Queen Elizabeth has always refused to be drawn about her personal politics, believing it's not the Royal Family's place to comment on personal matters.

Prince Harry and Meghan, 37, have just a few days left on the 16-day tour of Australia, the South Pacific and New Zealand. On Saturday they closed the Invictus Games at a spectacular ceremony. On their arrival here, Prince Harry and Meghan announced that she is pregnant with their first baby.
