Supermarket recalls meat after iPhone falls into mincer

Around 250 kilograms of pork, beef, chicken and lamb mince sold at a New Zealand supermarket has being recalled after an iPhone fell into a mincer.

An employee broke protocol by bringing an iPhone into the production area, and the packaged meat has now been recalled as it may contain glass, plastic and metal according to a report from stuff.co.nz

The Ministry for Primary Industries issued a recall on all minced meat packed in trays or sold over the counter which was packed on September 22 at Pak 'n Save Glen Innes in Auckland.

All trays of pork, beef and prime beef mince with a best before date of September 25 from Pak 'n Save Glen Innes are being recalled as well.

"It would appear that it fell unnoticed into the mincer. The team responsible will be retrained to ensure that such an event does not occur in the future," a spokeswoman said.

Customers who have bought the meat should return it to the supermarket for a full refund.

New Zealand Food Safety says people who may have consumed the product and have health concerns should seek medical advice.
