April 21 2020

A Queensland woman has been slammed after trying to sell her massive toilet paper haul at a marked-up price.

The woman has claimed she believed needed the 21 packs of toilet paper, each with 18 rolls, for her family during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Selling of excesss toilt (sic) paper that I no longer need,” she posted to a Facebook page for a community north of Brisbane.

“Don’t attack me for making sure my family was prepared for the pandanemic (sic).”

She advertises each pack of the Quilton product for $20 - a much higher price than similar products at Coles and Woolworths.

Her post has been circulated on social media website Reddit, with a large number of comments critical of her hoarding and accusing her of price gouging.

Her Facebook post was deleted after similar backlash.

It’s been more than a month since Australia’s toilet paper meltdown when coronavirus-fuelled panic buyers stripped shelves bare.

Shoppers have been limited to one pack of toilet paper per customer.

The product is back on supermarket shelves across Australia but price gouging has remained a problem.

It has prompted consumer advocacy group CHOICE to recently launch a petition seeking governments draft laws to end profiteering by retailers and individuals.

7NEWS.com.au has previously reported on a liquor store in Sydney’s south selling single toilet rolls for $2.50.

Another Sydney store was recorded selling a 30-pack of rolls for $50 in early April.

In South Australia, Drakes Supermarkets director John-Paul Drake lashed an unidentified customer who allegedly stockpiled thousands of rolls of toilet paper before asking for a refund.

Since the panic-buying phenomenon, retailers have gradually caught up with the demand, despite reported short supply in some locations
