A former Google employee has revealed how tech developers get us hooked on their apps.
Tristan Harris told CBS News that notifications on apps like Facebook and Snapchat can stimulate the brain in the same way as playing a slot machine.
People feel the same excitement when a notification pops up as when they win something.
'What you do is you make it so when someone pulls a lever, sometimes they get a reward, an exciting reward,’ he explained.
Mr Harris suggested that rather than being designed to enhance our lives and interactions, the apps could be being designed to hook us in.
