Urgent recall: Baby teething gel
"Immediately stop using the product"
Parents and carers are advised to check their medicine cabinets after Product Safety Australia issued an urgent recall of a popular teething gel.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have advised that consumers should immediately cease using the product.
Brauer Baby & Child Teething Gel (20g) has been recalled.
The recall is due to "microbial contamination (Burkholderia spp) contamination found through testing samples of this batch": said the ACCC in a statement.
Burkholderia may cause illness in babies and small children, healthy people and people with compromised immune systems.
The initial symptoms of Burkholderia infection may be a low-grade fever, potentially progressing to much more serious conditions, including pneumonia and other lung disorders.
The recall is issued for: Batch 809057 Expiry Date of September 2020
Brauer Baby & Child Teething Gel is sold at Pharmacies, Chemists, Health Food Stores and online.
The ACCC has advised that consumers are to immediately cease using the product and to seek medical advice if you suspect infection.
Consumers who use Brauer Teething Gel should check the batch number on the packaging, if it is from batch 809057 immediately stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase or contact Brauer Customer Service to arrange product return and a refund.
In infants who have been treated with the affected gel be alert to the potential signs of Burkholderia infection such as low-grade fever.
