The Bachelor's family slam critics of Nick Cummins

They've finally spoken out

October 09 2018

The sister of Bachelor star Nick Cummins has slammed the critics of her brother and believes he made exactly the right decision by staying single.

The footy star dump both Sophie Tieman and Brittany Hockley in a gripping finale and walked away saying that his dream girl was still out there.

The 31-year-old Bachie then disappeared off-the-grid walking the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea following the finale airing. He has been attacked for not choosing anyone.

A family friend writing to sister Bernadette's Facebook page, "I think your brother made the right choice. "After all, he is honest enough to say that he couldn't see himself with someone he didn't truly love. Good on him." "

Bernadette replied, "Why is honesty so hard for some people? I get the disappointment, but the bad mouthing, really?"

Nick's brother Jacob also addressed the backlash as fans looked for answers from the absent Bachelor, sharing a cryptic meme to Instagram.

Tagging his brother, Jacob shared: "Gossip dies when it hits a wise person's ear."

So far, the only response Nick has provided post-Bachelor was his interview on the Sunday Project with Lisa Wilkinson.

“It hit me with a fair bit of a thunderbolt. It was just like, you know what? Out of respect to these women, if I can’t stand here and say ‘I’m picking her and I love her,’ why would I start something with someone?” he told Wilkinson.

Cummins struggled to explain his decision, saying all came down to "timelines".

“So timelines you can have, you can think you know what you want, and then someone comes into your life and your view of what you thought you wanted gets absolutely blown out the window,” Cummins said.

“Why would I go in and start something that has a high potential of three months down the track breaking her heart, you know? I’d rather make a very hard decision then at that point to save a big scar on the heart later.” It's called a relationship Nick.

When pressed by Lisa Wilkinson about Brooke Blurton, who walked out on Cummins when he refused to give her any reassurance, he hinted that there were definitely deep feelings there.

“The eyes don’t lie... there was something left unsaid, there were a lot of emotions left swirling around. She got away in that regard,” he admitted.

Despite admitting that he had hurt the final four girls with his decision, Cummins says he has no regrets about his time on the show.

“No — as far as I had control, I wouldn’t do anything differently,” he said. “From what was in my grass, I’m happy.”

And then, in possibly the most awkward moment of the whole interview, Cummins message to the girls was that if he ever runs into them he'll "buy them a drink for old times sake".
