This breaks your heart

November 04 2018

A little boy, who was just three days away from celebrating his third birthday, died when he wandered out of his house in the middle of the night and was hit by two cars.

It’s believed little Bruce Fleming, two, left his home while his family were all asleep and was struck on a road and killed by oncoming cars.

The little boy was wearing dark clothes, and investigators told media that a passing driver saw Bruce on the side of the road and pulled over to help him, but tragically, it was too late. Bruce was hit by two different cars and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to media reports, Bruce's parents, of North Carolina USA, believe he got out of the house when his grandmother left to take Bruce's dad to work.

The rest of the family was in the house sleeping. Investigators said they do not expect to file any charges against the parents or the drivers of the cars that hit Bruce, though the Department of Social Services will need to conduct a standard investigation.

In a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs, Bruce who would have been three on November 3 was described as 'a delightful, energetic, happy toddler'. The page also reads, ‘Bruce's parents, David and Chelsea, adored and doted on Bruce. They delighted in taking him on outings to the fair, and to parades, and playing with him outdoors. They worked hard at multiple jobs to support and provide for their young family. The parents and family are utterly devastated and heartbroken over the loss of this beloved child.’

Tributes to little Bruce on social media have sympathised with David and Chelsea as they struggle to come to terms with the tragic accident.
