Mothers would be earning a higher salary than some doctors, pilots and dentists if they were paid for the work they do, a new study shows.

In fact, the expected salary would be around £108,837 in UK pounds sterling, or $201,610 in Aussie dollars.

The UK’s largest platform for childcarers and parents – Childcare.co.uk – has used its database of parents and childcarers to reveal how much mothers could charge if being a stay-at-home parent was a paid role.

While the hourly calculated rate was a fairly modest £12.51 ($23.22 AUD), the fact that parenting is a 24-hour 7-day-a-week job bumped the annual salary to six figures.

“As a parent myself, I have witnessed how hectic being a Mum can be,” said Richard Conway, Childcare.co.uk founder.

“And with [UK] Mother’s Day just around the corner we thought it would be nice to see just how much they could be getting paid if they were a childcarer on our site!

“After we worked it all out, I wasn’t surprised to see such a high salary, as unlike any other role in the world, being a Mother is constant, you never get a holiday from it or get to leave your responsibilities at the office.

“I hope this figure puts into perspective the amazing job mothers do!”
