Aldi Australia has released an award-winning French champagne just in time for Christmas - at less than half the price of the fancy brands like Bollinger and Moet & Chandon.
That’s right, for just $25 you can pick up a bottle of the acclaimed Veuve Monsigny Champagne Premier Cru NV which was awarded the Top 100 Blue Gold at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
Described on the Aldi website, the champers is described as:
- Each village in the Champagne region of France is rated for quality: just 43 villages achieve the enviable status of "Premier Cru".
- Subtle brioche and pear citrus notes on the nose lead to delicate hints of the honey and bright fruit on the seductively elegant palate.
- The finish is long, fresh and full with loads of finesse and style.
Better still, in a British blind taste test by UK consumer group Which? - similar to Australia’s Choice - the Aldi bubbles were voted ABOVE Moet and many other top drops including Laurent-Perrier, which sells for well over $50.
The best buys group it in the top three amongst the category - which is great news for Aussie champagne lovers this Christmas.
Wine review site Glass of Bubbly describes the Aldi Veuve Monsigny as the perfect party champagne, saying ‘there is not much else in the market that can compete with it.’
Meanwhile, acclaimed reviewer Campbell Mattinson from The Wine Front awarded the Aldi champers a whopping 92 points - beating a lot more well-known French campaigns. ‘It's bright, fresh and flavoursome,’ he revealed. ‘It's easy to see the attraction, and the quality. Damn good buying, you'd have to say. It tastes of spiced apples, honeysuckle, fuzzy sweet peach and almonds. It rings refreshingly through the finish, with no lack of length. Excellent style, and value.’
