Mum posts this Facebook photo - and is IMMEDIATELY diagnosed with life-threatening illness

She's now under-going treatment

November 29 2018

A mum, who innocently posted a photo of her fingernail to Facebook asking if anyone had seen a nail as curved as this, was told to race to hospital immediately.

Jean Williams Taylor, posted a close-up picture of her nail to show her friends how curved it was. She assumed she had bad genes that meant her  nails curved forwards over the top of her fingers.

But advice flooded in and it wasn’t what the British mum expected.

One follower advised Jean to seek urgent medical help and after a series of tests and scans she discovered she had lung cancer.

Jean said her mother, who had died of lung cancer, also had the curved nails, and so Jean believed they’d been passed down through the gene pool.

Medical professionals quickly diagnosed what is known as ‘finger clubbing’ which can mean there are issues with the lungs or heart and ordered a set of exams and tests for Jean.

She was then told she had two golf ball-sized tumours in both lungs.

Jean relayed the story on Facebook,  so she could raise awareness.

“Two weeks ago I posted this pic on my wall asking if anyone had seen nails like this. A few google posts later and I was urged to go to the Doctor. A tad extreme I thought...” Jean wrote.

“I was rushed for blood tests and a chest x-ray, two days later I got a phone call to go for a CT scan, two days later a PET scan and more blood tests, the day later a breathing test on my lungs and a scan on my heart, the day later an MRI scan then a lung biopsy,” she continued.

“After a gruelling two weeks, yesterday I got my results...Cancer in both my lungs. When your nails curve its often linked to heart and lung disease and its official term is " clubbing" I had no idea....Did you?

“Hope this post can help someone else in the early stages of cancer. Big shout out to the NHS you have been excellent and I thank all the staff that have dealt with my diagnosis,” she concluded."

The mum is now going through treatment in a bid to beat the disease and says she thinks her awareness campaign has already helped others.
