Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have proudly shared a photo of little baby Archie’s feet to mark the Duchess of Sussex’s first Mother’s Day.
But as the picture was released on Instagram, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on the receiving end of a wave of abuse from royal fans who hate the name they have chosen for their first-born son – slamming it as a dog’s name.
Taking to a discussion group on Mumsnet, there was an overwhelming dislike for the name because commenters don’t feel Archie is ‘royal’ enough and think his name sounds too bogan.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6 at 5.26am.
As the first-born son of a duke, Archie could have been Earl of Dumbarton, or even Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. But the couple refused to give him a title so that he can live a very normal life despite his royal heritage.
And when Meghan shared a new Instagram photo of baby Archie in front of a bed of Princess Diana’s favourite flowers – Forget-Me-Nots, the trolls started a vicious attack on Meghan and Harry’s choice of name.
Cruel commenters said it was ‘chavvy’ which is the UK term for bogan or common.
One wrote, “Very chavvy name around here. Countless men with Archie emblazoned across their chest.”
Another blasted, “Archie is unbelievably popular common round our neck of the woods and snob I may be but surnames as first names is common to me.”
A third wrote, “Dreadful. Archie 'Arrison. Common.”
Others have simply dismissed the name as a pet's name
One mum said, “Not really a royal name, never really been a fan of the name Archie it sounds like a pet name.”
A second said: “I know loads of Archie's, mainly spaniels and terriers.”
Another joked: “They’ve named him after our friend’s dog.”
