Babysitter works for 8 hours – then Mother refuses to pay because she ‘had fun and got ice-cream’

One woman found herself in a very bizarre predicament when she babysat another woman’s children for eight hours.

She messaged the children’s mother at the end of the day requesting payment, and gets a very strange response. The babysitter’s sister then posts the entire exchange on Reddit.

“I wasn't aware payment was involved. You got free ice cream and a day of fun... I'm sorry for the misinterpretation,” the mother responded.

However, the babysitter and mother had already agreed on a set fee of $16 per hour via text. The mother then conveniently claimed she couldn’t remember and said “I delete my messages often.”

When the babysitter sends screenshots of the conversation about payment, the woman then accuses her of being stuck up, and offers her $20 instead of the $128 she is owed, saying the children are “easy kids.”

The babysitter then responds saying she will accept $100 as she is desperate and needs to pay for textbooks, at which point the woman calls her a c**t and tells her she is going to block her.

The post has attracted more than 4500 comments from furious readers, with many urging the young woman to go to the small claims court to get her money.

“She can take them to small claims court and with the text messages she has nearly a 100% chance of winning. She’ll get the original amount plus court fees,” said one.

“I’d post this on her Facebook page if I could. And on all her friend’s pages, and every childcare page... let everyone know that she refuses to pay as agreed after service has been provided. Maybe someone will shame her into paying what she owes?”
