12-year-old helps deliver baby brother
It was the 'crazy' doctors idea!
Whilst most 12-year-olds would never dream of entering a birthing suite to watch the miracle of childbirth, brave Jacee assisted at the delivery of her baby brother.
Mum Dede Carraway said the emotions on her daughter's face brought her to tears. "It was just a good moment for me," she said.
Jacee Dellapena was upset during her mother's labour because, she said, she was too short to see her brother born.
So the doctor suggested she suit up and take part - delivering her baby brother under the doctor's supervision, and even cutting the umbilical cord.
She later told US media: "I was nervous I was going to mess up... but it was the best moment of my life."
"I started crying because I thought I wasn't going to get to see him be born, because I was too short," Jacee told WBTV.
"He let me actually push down and pull the baby out... I was like, wow, like I've played fake doctor before, but this is, like, the real thing, this is is the real deal," she said.
Jacee was upset that she was too short and wouldn't get to see her baby brother being born.
Mum Dede says she was shocked when her doctor suggested that daughter Jacee get involved with the delivery.
“I couldn’t believe it,” the 34-year-old told Today.com. “I was like, what? Uh, no. Never in a million years. But the doctor said, ‘I’m being serious. I’ll guide her hands and everything.’ So she got up in there and was suddenly in the middle of everything.”
Step-father Zach had planned to cut the umbilical cord but let Jacee step in and do the honours.
“He gave up a lot of his special bonding time with the baby and gave it to Jacee,” said mum Dede.
