As communities across NSW and Queensland continue to struggle after last week’s devastating bushfires, Woolworths has come to the rescue for one fortunate family.
Sharing her story on Facebook, mum Anna Lawrence revealed how her local Woolies store in Kempsey, NSW, ‘went above and beyond’ after she and her family lost their home and all their possessions in bushfires at Willawarrin, where one man tragically lost his life.

Explaining that the Woolworths team paid for her family’s first shop in their new home - with groceries totalling just under $700 - Anna says the act of kindness has left her ‘forever grateful.’
She writes: ‘My heart is still smiling from the generosity and support I received from my local Woolworths Kempsey Store today. Leigh, Casey and Michelle, You went above and beyond, and I am truly touched and forever grateful.
‘After losing our home and all our possessions to the Bush fires in Willawarrin last week, this has been an extremely challenging time for us.
‘You have no idea how much your help has meant to us. Words are really hard to express it. You took generosity and kindness to an uncommon level today with surprising us by paying for our first shop for our new home. We’re so grateful for your support.
‘The Kempsey Community has seriously been my backbone for all the little and big ways you’ve all pitched in to help us move forward after the devastation. You’ve motivated me to not give up. I can never thank you all enough.’
Sharing photos of herself and two of her children along with the Woolies Kempsey staff, Anna’s post attracted a huge wave of support on social media.
‘Good work woollies... great to see smiles on there faces just for a bit ...’ said one.
Added another: ‘That’s Amazing of Woolworths!!! So sorry to hear Anna 😢 you are a strong girl & great mum to your 2 beautiful kids ❤️ Thinking of you guys during this very hard time stay positive & just take one day at a time beautiful love you lots 💕😘
Said a third: ‘Well done Woolworths ... a lovely gesture for a family needing some help and support. ❤’
A Woolworths spokesperson tells New Idea Food: 'It’s important for local communities to rally together in response to the devastating bushfires, and we’re delighted our Kempsey store was able to provide a helping hand in this time of need.'
