Woman POSES as social worker to ABDUCT newborn baby
So scary
A new mother was left shaken when what appeared to be a routine check-in almost ended up with her new baby being kidnapped.
On June 7, the mum heard a knock on the door at her home in Santa Ana, California. A woman claiming to be a social worker was standing on her doorstep, claiming she was from Child Protective Services.
She then insisted that the mum had to surrender her newborn baby to her.
The quick-thinking mum asked to be shown identification, which the woman did not have, then asked if she could come along with her baby – who is just two weeks old.
The woman told her there was no room in the car, and that she would return with a sheriff's deputy and have the newborn “forcibly removed” from the home.
“OK, if the sheriff has to come in, that's fine,” said the mother, recalling the incident to KABC. “But I don't want to give you my kid.”
As the woman turned to go, the mum pulled out her phone and videoed her walking to her car.
Police have now managed to track the woman down, who has admitted to being at the residence but says her intention was not to kidnap the baby.
Needless to say, she does not work for Child Protection Services and is now in police custody where she is being interviewed by homicide detectives.
“How did this woman know that this victim had a child less than two weeks ago, where she lives?” asked Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
“How'd she get her personal information? That's all scary to us.”
