A mother has pled guilty to killing her 23-month-old twins who were found alone and dying at home shortly after Christmas.

Samantha Ford was charged by police after the children were discovered in their beds at their home in Kent, UK on December 27.

The 38-year-old was involved in a head-on collision with a truck on a busy carriageway in the early hours of the morning.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, she told them her two children were at home.

Paramedics tried to save the toddlers, but they were taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.

Ms Ford denied two counts of murder but offered two guilty pleas to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

Prosecutors will now decide whether her pleas are acceptable. In the meantime, she will remain in custody.

The twins' father Steven Ford and seven others attended the hearing. After the killings, he tweeted: "Daddy's twins xxx my beautiful babies. I love you."

In a later tweet he said: "I want the world to see my beautiful babies. Jake and Chloe forever xxx."

The trial continues next month.
