On Christmas morning, children around the world open gifts with excitement. However, the royal children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – have a very different tradition.
Because of their Germanic heritage, the royals open their gifts on Christmas Eve instead, an insider has explained.
“The royals are of German descent so they weave in German traditions to their celebrations,” former royal chef Darren McGrady told the Express.
“After afternoon tea, they open gifts on Christmas Eve, as is the German tradition.”
The royal family’s website confirms this, stating: “On Christmas Eve, The Royal Family lay out their presents on trestle tables and will exchange their gifts at tea time.”
Meghan Markle will be spending her first Christmas this year as a member of the Royal Family, and it’s reported her mother, Dora Ragland, has been invited too.
On Christmas morning, the Royals have a busy schedule with two Church services to attend. The first is at 9am and is a private one for the family so the Queen may take communion.
The family then return home to change outfits and attend the public service at St Mary Magdalene Church at 11am.
The Royal children do not attend this service until they are five, which means Prince George may be in attendance for the first time this year.
