Game of Thrones characters soar up baby names chart
The popular show has a lot of influence!
The top baby names for 2017 have been revealed, with many monikers from the popular TV series Game of Thrones making an appearance.
Khaleesi, which means ‘Queen’ was given to 76 babies in the UK, while ‘Daenarys’, Emilia Clarke’s character, was also featured. Daenarys means ‘born of the storm’.
The number of boys named after Peter Dinklage’s character Tyrion Lannister stayed the same as last year, with 11 boys being given the name Tyrion, which means ‘nobility’.
But the most popular name from Game of Thrones was Arya, Maisie Williams’ swashbuckling character.
Arya has also been popular in previous years, and is predicted to be in 18th place for the most well-liked monikers for next year. Arya means ‘noble.’
Arya’s sister Sansa, another prominent character on the show, also rose up the charts, with the name meaning ‘praise, charm.’
Other popular GOT names include Brienne, Melisandre, Shireen and Snow for girls, and Bran, Jon, Jamie (Jaime) and Tristan (Trystane).
