Unsurprisingly, the most popular female name for 2019 is Charlotte.

The name has been number one for four years straight, with a smashing 1,673 baby girls being given the name last year.

According to McCrindle.com.au, the trend is highly influenced by the names famous faces choose - in particular, royalty.

After the birth of Princess Charlotte in 2015, the name rose to the top spot and has remained there.

Willow (Pink's daughter) and Luna (Chrissy Teigen's baby) were also popular choices in 2019.

Olivia, Amelia, Ava, Mia and Isla also feature in the top five baby girl names.

In a similar fashion, Oliver has maintained the top spot in boys names for the sixth year in a row (2,134 boys were named Oliver last year).

Jack, William, Noah and Henry also made the top five.

The name Henry hadn't been in the top 10 for over 6 years but re-entered the top 10 most popular names for a boy in 2019.

7 News suggested that the change may be due to Prince Harry (whose official name is Henry) marrying Meghan Markle in May 2018.

Archie is currently the 29th most popular boy's name and after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose the name for their son, the name is likely to rank higher next year.
