A New Zealand mum says giving birth to two babies in one year has “been a real adventure.”
After three failed IVF attempts, Kimberley and Jason Smylie thought they wouldn’t be able to able to have children.
Finally, after five years of trying, Kimberley fell pregnant with their first-born, Jack.
To her surprise, 12-weeks later, she found out she was pregnant again.
"We were really shocked," Kimberley, who writes about her family on her blog, The Modern Mummy Lifestyle, told Stuff. "We didn't think we could have babies naturally after the IVF attempts with Jack so we were really surprised, but excited too.
"I think it took a few months for me to get my head around it."
Jack was born prematurely on January 10, 2016. 11 months later, Sam was born prematurely at 35 weeks on November 25, 2016.
"There was meant to be a year between them," she explained. "Sam's due date was January 21, 2017, but he came early."
As for Jason, he says he couldn’t be happier.
"Having two babies in one year has been a real adventure. People think we're a bit crazy."
