A man will await his first court appearance from behind bars after being accused of causing the death of a pregnant woman who fell out of a moving car in Melbourne.
Helena Broadbent, 32, died in hospital after delivering a baby, who remains in a critical condition, via C-section on Saturday.
William Wilson, 35, was charged on Sunday afternoon with causing her death by driving dangerously.
His matter was heard in absentia at Melbourne Magistrate's Court on Sunday night.
His lawyers did not apply for bail.
He was remanded to remain in custody ahead of a first appearance in court on Wednesday.
Wilson's lawyer also revealed this is his first time in custody.
Police allege Wilson was having an altercation with Ms Broadbent at a home on Kiwi Retreat in Keilor Downs about 1pm on Saturday.
They believe the argument continued in a car Wilson was driving, with Ms Broadbent falling from the back seat onto the road as the car hit a corner.
She was flown to hospital but died after delivering the baby.
