New mum Katy Perry has a long history with MTVs Video Music Awards (VMAs), first attending in 2008 and hosting the entire event in 2017. So when MTV hosted their first ever COVID-edition virtual ceremony on Sunday, of course Katy was going to be involved.
And being Katy Perry the look she pulled together is certainly memorable!
Thanks to COVID-19, nearly all major events have been postponed or canceled this year amid the pandemic. However the adaptable folks at MTV decided to move forward with their 2020 Video Music Awards - red carpet and all!
This year the virtual VMAs took place at several outdoor locations across New York City without an audience, but still managed to give quarantined, red-carpet deprived celebs a chance flex their fashion mojo.
Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Machine Gun Kelly wowed fans, and 35-year-old Katy wasn't going to let being five-days post partum change that.
Welcoming her first child, daughter Daisy Bloom with fiancé Orlando Bloom just five days prior, Katy shared a video to her Instagram stories showing her fashion choice for the event, a slightly more practical one than she's made in years past.
Posing in front of a bathroom mirror, The Voice judge is seen rocking a nude breast pumping harness and a pair of 'I just had a baby' grey high-waisted underwear.
"Hair and makeup by: @exhaustion," the jokester captioned the shot, while also tagging the makers of her harness and underwear. Vastly different from designers like Marchesa, Versace and Tom Ford that she's worn for the event in years past.
The popstar has welcomed a daughter, Daisy Dove, with fiancé Orlando Bloom on Wednesday last week.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” said the couple in a joint statement to UNICEF which included a heartwarming black and white photo of them holding onto their darling daughter’s hand.
In their statement to UNICEF, the couple stated that although they are joyously celebrating the birth of their daughter, “they know they are the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as theirs was.”
They shared: “Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.
“Since COVID-19, many more newborn lives are at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases.”
Katy Perry pulled off the most Rockstar move of 2020 by announcing her pregnancy in a music video clip for her new single, Never Worn White. And while the rest of the world may have been delightfully shocked, it seems the happy parents-to-be might have known this was coming.
The 35 year old Roar declared: “It wasn’t an accident,” during a conversation with SiriusXM’s Mikey Piff. “I’ve just been trying to create this space in my own life where I’m not running myself too ragged and creating space for something new to pop in like this.”
