Swedish furniture brand IKEA has issued a recall warning on its SUNDVIK changing table and chest of drawers following reports that children have fallen from them.
The company said three incidents had been reported on the foldable part of the table coming loose, and confirmed they were "recalling for repair SUNDVIK changing table/chest of drawers and urges customers to follow the assembly instructions due to fall risk."
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission issued a notice on Thursday about Ikea’s SUNDVIK hybrid changing table and chest of drawers.
“Ikea has received three reports of incidents where the foldable part has come loose and children have fallen off the changing table,” the ACCC said.
“In these incidents the safety locking fittings were not used according to the assembly instructions.”
The ACCC added anyone who purchased one of the changing tables “should secure the folding part with the safety locking fittings provided” as “the foldable part of product may come loose or may break at or near the change table hinge”.
“The folding part should be locked in place the whole time that the product is used as a change table,” the ACCC said.
“When a child is past the nappy stage the product may be locked in place as a chest of drawers.
“If these fittings have been lost or misplaced, please contact Ikea to receive new fittings free of charge.”
On the Ikea website the company confirmed that the item was being recalled for repair.
