Soooo happy! How I save thousands off my annual grocery bill 🙌🏼The Coles near my sons daycare drop off only had a few things marked down at 7.45am at 20% off so I left it. Went to my fav Coles in the next suburb at 9.30am and wooowwww 😀 honestly there was markdowns galore, so plenty left behind for others. Probably the most amount of markdowns I ever seen in one go. Some treats too as I probably won't have time to bake today as I have work, but who cares I saved up to 75% of all this stuff! Huge savings! #reducedhaul #markdownaddictsaustralia #stickershop #savingmoney #howtosavemoney #smartshopper #bargainshopper #budgetmum #budget #groceryhaul #debtfreecommunity #debtfreegoals #goaldigger

She recently saved up to 75 per cent off her grocery shop by checking a few different Coles stores and filling her trolley with marked-down goods.

The haul included several packets of sliced ham for $1 each, half-price discounts on milk, meat and treats from the bakery.

She also has a ‘side hustle’ selling unwanted household items and recently pocketed several hundred dollars by selling a go-kart she had lying around.

“It’s been sitting for literally years - unused hurting my eyes,” she wrote. “So I’m off to bank the $, half going into to further top up emergency fund, the rest to paying off my car (only debt) sooner.”

Shae says it also pays to shop around regularly for better deals, saying she recently saved $474.32 annually by switching providers for her comprehensive car and home contents insurance.

“Pays to shop around!” she wrote. “Just found a better deal on my comprehensive car insurance with Woolworths, and if I went with them for home contents would save 30% on that and get a bonus $50 gift card too.”

Regular baking sessions take care of lunchbox treats, she says, and she makes simple meals from marked-down items she finds at the supermarket, such as chicken kiev with vegies or potato bakes. Her cost for dinners often comes in at just $5-$10 for a family of five.

The 34-year-old says while she doesn’t use the envelope saving method, preferring to use her credit card, she does use clear plastic envelopes to sort cash into piles for banking and splurging.

“I started my new way of living about 6 months ago, making small changes here and there and noticed very quickly how doing this was improving my life not only financially but in other areas too,” she shares.

“My goals are to still save to buy my own house one day, realistically though that is in the far future unless I win lotto, but still working towards it. Most importantly want to teach my kids about managing their money and being smart, I was never taught that and learnt the hard way. Just trying to be the best person and mum I can be day to day also.”
