Kids should be weighed at school in a bid to stop obesity

It's been dubbed the 'fat test'.

Children should be weighed every year at school in a desperate bid to reduce obesity, say leading doctors.

Under new plans, annual health checks would be introduced for all children to look for warning signs of weight problems.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK says growing levels of obesity, means there is ‘danger on the horizon’ for the next generation.

The shock controversial plan has angered some parents who believe that their child's weight and health should not be judged by the school.

But Tam Fry, from the National Obesity Forum, said there was currently very little done to track the progress of an individual child. He said: ‘The RCPCH is right to recommend annual measurements for every child.

‘Monitoring height and weight from age two onwards is vital to pick up as early as practicable the first signs of obesity.’

But some mums take a different view.

'This is taking a nanny-state to a whole new level,' said one. 'My child should not be judged by his school for his weight - only his academic performance.'

'It's like a fat test,' said another.
