Byron bay cafe sells $8 smoothie containing COWS colostrum
So strange
The Roadhouse cafe in Byron Bay has added an unusual new smoothie to its menu – an “elixir” which contains cow’s colostrum mixed with coconut water.
Sharing a photo of the smoothie on social media, the caption reads: “The Colostrum Shake ... Organic coconut water blended with Mother Nature’s first food .... 🐮Udderly delicious ! #roadhouseelixirs”
Colostrum is the first form of milk produced by mammals (including humans) after a baby is born and before milk “comes in.”
The colostrum in question comes from cows in this case, it’s believed.
Since the pic was posted on Instagram, it has received 354 likes and 40 comments.
“Is this with breast milk or cow’s milk,” asks one commenter.
“Body builder [sic] buy breast milk to help them gain,” adds another.
“WTF haha this is sick,” writes another.
The drink is listed on the café’s menu as a “Colostrum Shake ($8) – Coconut water blended with colostrum, mother nature’s ‘first food’ for all mammals. Also known as ‘immune milk’.”
Hmm, we might just stick with a coffee, thanks.
