A little boy has drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel where his family were staying in Kos, Greece, on holiday.

Theo Treharne-Jones, aged five, is believed to have wandered off down to the pool before his parents Nina Treharne and Richard Jones woke up.

Despite efforts to save him, the British boy died before emergency services could arrive. The hotel manager and his parents were later arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and endangering the life of a minor, but were released soon afterwards, The Sun reports.

A spokesman for the Greek police said: ‘It is common for next of kin to be arrested in such circumstances but as is always the case, they were not held in police custody and were immediately freed.’

The family were on a TUI package holiday to the Atlantica Holiday Village resort and had stayed there previously.

A spokesman for travel operators TUI said: “We are aware of the tragic incident at the Holiday Village Kos, Greece and our thoughts are with the family.

“As the matter is currently still under investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
